Diverse with Purpose
Men’s jewelry is very diverse. Generally speaking: it’s heavier, made with more material, and much more subjective than jewelry that is traditionally made for and worn by women. This is why it’s a perfect candidate for customization; the person designing the piece has wants and needs that aren’t typically on the marketplace where things are mass produced and most people already approve of it. This reason is a bit of a double edged sword, however, because it also gives off the impression that customizing a piece of jewelry for men has a high psychological barrier – people might think that you need to be an artist or expert in design to create a piece, and that’s simply not the case.
It Doesn’t Exist, and That’s Okay
When we’re working with a client to customize men’s jewelry, the first thing we want to make clear is that what you’re looking for most likely does not already exist on the shelves of jewelry stores anywhere. But don’t get disheartened by that – if anything we want you to get excited by the idea that you are creating something entirely brand new! The actual process comes down to knowing two things: don’t think too hard about your design, and know what you don’t like.
In a lot of cases, designing jewelry is similar to creating a statue from a block of marble. To the sculptor, the statue is already there, it’s a matter of taking away the pieces of stone that we don’t want to see. By the end of the project, all of the extra bits are gone and we are left with a work of art. Jewelry is the same way. The best part about this philosophy is that, no matter what, you’re automatically right because you know what you like and want for your custom piece. If you know what you don’t like, we slowly eliminate things and you will very quickly start to see the things you do like come to life and combine into something uniquely yours.
A Glorious Thing
Like with all fashion trends, men’s jewelry has gone through phases. If you were to look back to the 70s and 80s men had necklaces, chains, bracelets, and rings galore. It was the style of the time – and what a style it was. When we got to the late 90s and 2000s the fashion had changed and men had none of the above. Fast forward to the present day and we have countless styles available from the classics to post-modern. Nowadays people are more accepting of fashion trends and we have the freedom to be as creative and diverse with what style we like personally. Custom men’s jewelry is no different! We love those pieces because it offers a larger palette to work with. It grants us the opportunity to make something a little more grand and out of the traditional box from a designer’s point of view. It’s a glorious thing to be able to work with a blank slate and turn it into something entirely unique to an individual.
We believe that it is our job to understand the world of jewelry: to be experts in what has already been done and how we can perfect current designs. All you have to do is take that first step, and you’re more than ready to customize your very own piece of jewelry.
