From Humble Beginnings …

Before it was the workshop and showroom you know today; Jewelry Designs began in 1980 as a small, single level ranch home on Mill Plain Road in Danbury, CT. Founded by Robert Underhill and his newlywed wife, Karen, the jewelry designer and gemologist duo forged their dream from a startup of only a few hundred dollars into one of the country’s leading custom jewelry stores.

The business started with the young couple living and working out of the same building. They provided wholesale jewelry repairs, estate jewelry restoration, and custom orders to a wide variety of clients. Repairs and custom work for fellow jewelers evolved into a desire to work directly with customers, and creating what their clients wanted first hand. Over the next five years: Robert, Karen, and their team of jewelers focused their efforts on providing more unique pieces for their own customers. The success from this move lead to the construction of a larger facility to continue creation, and have a dedicated place to showcase their works.

… Through Changes & Expansions

Since then, Jewelry Designs has undergone many changes and expansions. Through the continued support of dedicated customers, who were excited to have a personalized experience in their jewelry buying; as well as improved technology, from hand carving raw material to CAD rendering and 3D sculptings, the unique business was able to flourish.

But even as the times changed, they’ve never strayed from the quality standards of old world craftsmanship. The original founders and family are still active in the company today: surrounded by expert artisans and master jewelers working together to create elite handmade jewelry that can’t be found anywhere else.
