Confidence in Your Jeweler
At Jewelry Designs, we have been engaged in jewelry repair and estate jewelry restoration since 1980.
In fact, in the early years of our business, we did repairs for other jewelers and auction houses throughout the northeast. The very same technicians that make the jewelry you see in our showroom will restore and repair your precious jewelry. All of our repair work is done on location with the latest state-of-the art equipment, and the most talented group of artisans available. Your jewelry is insured while it is with us and cared for like it was our very own. Our reputation depends on it!
Sizing Gold & Platinum Rings
Ring sizing may seem like a routine procedure, and in most cases it is. Nonetheless, we see far too often that jewelers will simply hammer a ring up to a larger size, or put undue stress on stones or settings by over manipulating the materials. At Jewelry Designs, we properly size your ring by soldering or welding additional precious metals into place as the situation merits. Our experienced team will evaluate each ring on an individual basis to determine the least invasive method to bring your ring to the proper size and insure its integrity.
Replacing & Rebuilding Ring Shanks
In many cases, older rings wear thin to the point of breakage or risk loss. In these situations, we can remove the worn-out or eroded areas of your ring and replace them with new precious metal sections to restore its original integrity. Don't give up on that old favorite ring until you consult with our specialists. Very often we can restore a piece to its original state with a minimal investment.
Gold Chain Repair
If you have chains that are broken, bring them in for us to evaluate. Chances are they can be easily and inexpensively repaired. In many cases the repaired areas are not even detectable after the work is done. While you are in our shop, our consultants will look at your chain and inform you of any additional wear that may be occurring. We will advise you on care and the durability of the chain if you are using it to support a pendant.
Jewelry Clasps and Latches
One of the most frequently needed repairs is the repair and replacement of clasps and latches. Precious metals are soft. Movable parts wear out faster than the rest of the jewelry, so they are usually the first areas to fatigue.
At Jewelry Designs, our technicians will evaluate the need to repair or replace your clasp, closure, or hinge. You can be confident that our skilled team will do the job in the best manner possible, taking into account the limitations of your item. Most times, the repair or eplacement of a latch can make the difference between whether or not your favorite bracelet sits in a drawer or you wear and enjoy it confidently.
Gemstone Setting And Replacement
Some of the few hardships associated with wearing jewelry are that occasionally settings wear out or a stone falls out. When this happens, we can replace the stone and reset it into the mounting for you. If the setting is badly worn, we will recommend the necessary repair and rebuild work needed to restore your jewelry to the best possible condition.
Jewelry Prong Replacement
In most situations, when prongs have worn out, we will recommend total replacement of the component in your jewelry known as the head or prong system. In the case of engagement rings, we will always recommend platinum prongs for the best durability. Although the replacement of a head is more expensive than rebuilding the prongs, it is the safest way to insure that stones are not lost. Usually the gemstone in the ring is worth the investment to protect it.
Laser Jewelry Repairs
Through state-of-the art laser technology, Jewelry Designs' master craftsmen can do delicate and intricate repairs in areas that a jeweler's torch might damage. In some cases, the laser provides us with a method of rebuilding or securing precious metals to areas where heat sensitive stones or materials are present. Through the use of lasers, we are able to weld platinum at nearly 3400° F next to sensitive stones without affecting them.
Antique Jewelry Restoration
Jewelry Designs' technicians have specialized in antique and estate restoration since 1980. Our team of expert jewelers routinely restore important Georgian, Victorian, turn of the century, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco jewelry. The artisans at Jewelry Designs are still called on to make jewelry through Old World methods, so we are very familiar with repair and maintenance of hand-made antiquities.
